A new Amazon pickup and return location opened Tuesday in downtown State College.
Amazon@State College is located at 134 S. Allen St. The site was formerly occupied by Abercrombie & Fitch for 15 years before the store closed in 2015. Last fall it was the site of a seasonal Halloween City.
The location offers a place for fast, secure delivery of Amazon orders and free returns. Amazon Prime and Prime Student members can get one-day delivery to the location, as opposed to the normal two-day delivery offered with membership. Orders placed by 10 p.m. will be delivered the following day, according to Amazon.
Shoppers who are not Prime members can still get their items shipped to the pickup location, and staff said that deliveries to the pickup site are typically faster than normal home delivery.
‘Amazon@StateCollege provides customers peace of mind with safe, secure options for retrieving Amazon orders and staff on-site to assist when necessary,’ a news release said.
Shoppers can select the pickup point when checking out. Once a package arrives, customers are notified and receive a text or email with a unique barcode. The barcode can be scanned upon arrival to open a locker with the customer’s items. Deliveries can usually be retrieved in less than a minute
Staff are also on hand to assist and help with customer service issues.
An Amazon spokesperson said pickup locations typically employ between nine and 15 associates, depending on the time of year.
The State College site is Amazon’s 22nd pickup location.
Amazon@State College is open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and noon to 9 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
