Update: After the publication of this article, a Mezeh spokesperson said the State College restaurant is now scheduled to open on Feb. 22, not Feb. 10 as originally reported.
Hummus, tzatziki and pita, oh my! Mediterranean food lovers can soon rejoice because Mezeh Mediterranean Grill expects to open in downtown State College on Feb. 22, according to a representative for the restaurant. It originally planned to open in September.
Hours of the grand opening event at 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Located at 348 E. Calder Way on the ground level of The Maxxen, Mezeh will soon be serving up flatbread wraps, bowls and pita pockets.
When ordering, customers first select a vegetable or rice base, followed by a protein from a handful of options, including falafel, chicken shawarma and lamb kofta.
With as many as 30 toppings, diners can add flavorful add-ons, including Turkish olives, hummus, Lebanese tabbouleh, Israeli couscous, feta and sumac cucumbers. Sauces range from tahini to lemon garlic to s’hug.
If making decisions isn’t your thing, you can choose from a line of lifestyle bowls, like the “shawarma dream” or the “taste of mezeh,” too.
Mezeh also offers fresh-baked pita bread and a line of drinks that are made without added sugar, GMOs and other additives.
Customers can register for the “grand opening event” which includes a free bowl with the purchase of a drink and a $10 credit toward a future purchase.
The chain operates 19 stores in Virginia, 13 in Maryland, and two outside of Philadelphia. The State College location joins seven other shops that are expected to open in other locations on the East Coast.
Mezeh will be the second business to open in The Maxxen, joining El Jefe’s Taqueria, which opened in May 2021.
