The team behind Pine Grove Hall is opening a second restaurant next door, an addition that owner Liz Grove said is part of the food and live music venue’s “continuing evolution.”

Flour & Stone will open later this month at 125. E. Pine Grove Rd. in Pine Grove Mills, just across the parking lot from Pine Grove Hall. The new restaurant will take on Pine Grove Hall’s upscale, farm-to-table menu, while the original location will switch to more casual offerings.

“As we worked through the design and construction of Flour & Stone, it became clear that the new space, with its four separate dining rooms, is better suited for more intimate dining,” Grove said in a news release. “Chef Tory [Glossner]’s exquisite food will now receive the undivided attention it deserves. Similarly, a more casual menu will contribute to Pine Grove Hall’s success as a music venue and a spot for a relaxed dinner.”

The changes are strategic, Grove said, and were made using internal data and feedback from guests.

At Flour & Stone, Pine Grove Hall’s creative and culinary team are bringing the more upscale menu to a former house that has been converted to a space that “harmonizes the beauty of an old building with airy, updated sleekness,” according to the release.

The menu will feature “atypical” items, such as moussaka lasagna made with local beef ragu and adventurous, and shareable dishes like a grilled stone fruit pizzetta with pistachio and  stracciatella cheese.

A street-side window also will offer grab-and-go breakfast and lunch sandwiches, as well as espresso coffees.

Pine Grove Hall’s reimagined menu, meanwhile, will be more casual while maintaining high quality, Grove said. It will include favorites such as ricotta gnocchi; fried chicken “salad,” served with roasted sweet potato, buttermilk dressing, herbs, hot sauce and red onion; and the Cubano sandwich. It also will feature a variety of pizza, like pepperoni with house sauce and local mushroom with miso ricotta and arugula.

The cocktail menu led by head bartender Sc’Eric Horner will remain at Pine Grove Hall, while Flour & Stone’s bar will emphasize wine, with a selection of cocktails and beers to complement the food menu.

Pine Grove Hall opened in 2020 in the former Old Oak Tavern with an emphasis on both food and a live music, including state-of-the-art sound, lighting and live-streaming systems, a listening room experience in the upstairs room and a full show experience downstairs.

It’s reputation has grown as it has welcomed local, regional and national acts. Upcoming shows include blues guitarist and singer-songwriter Roy Book Binder on Aug. 9 and Pittsburgh native Billy Price and his band on Sept. 9, among others.

“The touring  artists appreciate the support they received from our local community,” Grove said. “Billy’s show sold out quickly last year.

“We also want to remind people that on evenings we have live music, we also always have the second dining room available for just dinner. Come for dinner and a show, or just come for  dinner.”

Flour & Stone and Pine Grove Hall will be “separate but connected,” Glossner said, and will ultimately have “a campus-like feel that utilizes indoor and outdoor spaces efficiently.”

Pine Grove Hall’s new casual menu will start Wednesday, Aug. 7, when its revised hours of 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday begin. It will also begin offering curbside takeout for its entire menu by the end of August.

An exact opening date has not yet been set for Flour & Stone. It will be open 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday through Sunday.
