Weirdoughs Custom Pizzeria in downtown State College announced its closure in a social media post Friday afternoon. Owner Joe Boss opened the restaurant in September 2020 at 204 E. College Ave. in the former longtime home of Brother’s Pizza.
A multi-slide statement to the company’s now-private Instagram account addressed the closure.
“Dear Penn State, today our landlords and us have agreed to part ways,” the statement said. “The ending was sudden and unfortunately did not allow us the time to say our final goodbye.”
A sign posted to the restaurant’s door by Continental Real Estate Management stated the lease for the location was “terminated,” and that the storefront had not been occupied as of late.
“…The business at this leased premises has not been in operation for many days and it appears to have been abandoned,” the sign read. “It has not been possible to contact representatives of the tenant and to verify the safety and security of the premises.
“Therefore, the landlord has changed the locks in order to secure the premises and to ensure that there is no potential health hazzard [sic], reduce the possibility of damage, and that there is no unauthorized entry onto the premises.”
It’s unclear if Weirdoughs will open in another location, as Boss allowed for the possibility of a return.
“Papa Bear told me to tell you he might make an appearance every now and then to remind all of you in Happy Valley who runs this bitch,” the post stated. “It’s goodbye for now, but maybe not goodbye forever.”
