The State College branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) is accepting donations for its annual May used book sale.
Books can be dropped off at the AAUW State College Used Book Workshop, 2197 High Tech Road, near University Park Airport, at the blue building in the back.
Books may be placed in the outdoor blue bins at the workshop entrance at any time. If any assistance is needed for a donation, the workshop is open on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
“After a very busy summer of hundreds of book donations at the AAUW State College Used Book Workshop, things have slowed down significantly and workshop volunteers stand ready to handle incoming donations for processing,” the organization wrote in a news release.
Proceeds from the Used Book Sale will fund local grants and scholarships that advance equity for women and girls.
While AAUW will accept many different kinds of donations for the book sale, the following items will not be accepted:
- Items that are unhealthy to handle or are dirty, moldy, smelly, chewed, or wet.
- Textbooks that were published more than five years ago, unless they are classic reference books.
- Encyclopedias
- Dictionaries
- Vinyl phonograph records, audio and video tapes.
- Magazines, including National Geographic magazines.
- Travel guides more than five years old.
- Catalogs.
- Readers Digest Condensed Books.
- VHS tapes
- Library books, or materials that have been discarded from libraries that bear their stamps.
The 2024 AAUW State College Used Book Sale is scheduled for May 11-14 at Snider Agricultural Arena.
“AAUW State greatly appreciates community support for the annual sale,” the organization wrote.
