Families can honor the military heroes in their lives with personalized lamp-post banners in downtown State College during Military Appreciation Month in November.

The Downtown State College Improvement District and Penn State’s Military Appreciation Committee partnered to create the program last year. Banners will be installed in late October and will be displayed for the entire month of November in 2023 and 2024, according to a news release.

Banners will then be given to families to keep after their removal next year.

“This initiative was created to show our support and gratitude to individuals that have served our country and give family and friends the opportunity to honor their loved ones,” DSCID Executive Director Lee Anne Jeffries said. “In turn, we hope to subsidize the Penn State Military Student Fund scholarship program.”

Community members can purchase a banner for $350. A portion of the proceeds will go to the Penn State Military Student Fund to provide financial assistance through a scholarship program for active service members, veterans and their dependents.

Those interested in purchasing a military appreciation banner must complete this form and place their order by Aug. 15, 2023.
