Greater Buffalo Run Valley United Methodist Church in Bellefonte was awarded $10,000 by the Alliance for Green Heat for firewood processing equipment that will be used as a part of the church’s outreach program, Firewood for Good.
Firewood for Good, a volunteer run initiative that provides firewood to residents in need.
“Modeled after food banks, firewood banks depend on wood donated by tree trimmers, towns and homeowners, businesses and partnerships with local State and National Forests to distribute to community members,” a press release from Greater Buffalo Run Valley United Methodist Church explained. “There are more than 150 firewood banks around the country and each one is eligible for a grant to purchase equipment so that they can more efficiently process firewood.”
The Alliance for Green Heat is a nonprofit which administers a national program which provides support to volunteer firewood banks.
Greater Buffalo Run Valley United Methodist Church noted that it is currently looking for addition volunteers and wood sources for the Firewood for Good program. Those interested in participating or in need of emergency firewood can call 814-355-2208 or email [email protected].
