Organizers and community members will celebrate the opening of a new bike park in Boalsburg this weekend.

A ribbon cutting ceremony and grand opening event for the Bike Park at Harvest Fields Community Trails will begin at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday. The trails and park are located just off the main parking lot of Calvary Church, 150 Harvest Fields Drive.

The bike park is the newest phase of the Harvest Field Community Trails, which opened in 2020 with nearly 4 miles of multi-use trails designed for experienced and novice cyclists in the mountainside woods behind Calvary Church, which donated the land.

Led by the Nittany Mountain Biking Association (NMBA), the church and several sponsors, the new bike park is “a unique, next generation, outdoor recreation facility where community members of all ages and abilities can develop mountain biking skills, improve overall fitness and just have fun,” according to NMBA.

The park features progressive obstacles and experiences for riders of varying skill levels, including a variety of ramps, turns, pump rollers, tabletops and log hops.

“It has been unbelievably fulfilling to demonstrate that we can work together on a community project that requires a really diverse selection of people,” project leader and NMBA board member Josh Stapleton said in 2022, when the park received a $16,000 tourism grant from the Happy Valley Adventure Bureau and Centre County commissioners.

Sunday’s grand opening celebration will include a bounce house, kid activities, refreshments and an opportunity to connect with representatives from Happy Valley Women’s Cycling, the Centre County Crows youth bike team, NMBA, and Clearwater Conservancy and Rothrock Trail Alliance to learn about additional biking opportunities in the area.

Those who RSVP and attend will be eligible to win door prizes from Purple Lizard Maps, Stan’s NoTubes, Climb Nittany, the Bike Roost and more.
