Mount Nittany Medical Center Reveals Top Baby Names of 2023

A few of last year’s most popular names for babies born in Centre County persisted into 2023, while a host of new entries made the lists for both boys and girls, according to Mount Nittany Medical Center.

Nearly 1,300 babies were delivered this year at the State College hospital and its Joseph V. and Suzanne P. Paterno Women and Children’s Services Unit. On Tuesday, Mount Nittany Health revealed the top 10 most popular boys’ and girls’ names for those newborns.

Henry, which ranked No. 7 in 2022, topped the list of boys’ names for 2023. Last year’s most popular boys’ name, Theodore, dropped to No. 7.

Those were the only boys’ names that carried over on the top 10. New to this years list were Oliver, Lincoln, Maverick, Noah, Owen, Asher, Bennett and Cameron. They replaced Liam, Benjamin, David, Andrew, Grayson, Alexander, Beau and Cooper on the list.

Charlotte, which was No. 9 in 2022, came in at No. 1 among girls’ names this year. Last year’s most popular name, Ellie, did not rank in the top 10 for 2023.

Amelia, Olivia, Emma and Harper all returned to the top 10 in 2023, joining newcomers Lucy, Paisley, Abigail, Caroline and Eleanor. Four other top 10 names from 2022 —Scarlett, Adeline, Ava and Grace — fell off of this year’s list.
