See the Route and Road Closings for the Inaugural Ironman Happy Valley

The inaugural Ironman 70.3 Pennsylvania Happy Valley is scheduled to take place on Sunday, bringing with it a number of traffic impacts throughout Centre County.

After years of effort to bring an Ironman event to the region, the triathlon is expected to have 2,700 competitors representing all 50 states and nine countries. They’ll be supported by more than 1,000 volunteers for the event that will travel from Sayers Lake at Bald Eagle State Park into part of Clinton County, back through the Nittany Valley and Penns Valley and into State College before culminating on the Penn State campus.

While air quality has been a concern in Centre County and throughout Pennsylvania this week because of smoke from Canadian wildfires, race officials said on Wednesday that they are monitoring conditions and based on current forecasts are moving forward with plans to conduct the event as scheduled.

So with the triathlon expected to go on, here’s a look at the route participants will take, followed by roads that will be closed, closed with local traffic and open with event traffic. PennDOT has posted orange signs advising of traffic impacts throughout the area.

THE ROUTE

SWIM

The triathlon begins at 7 a.m. Sunday with a 1.2-mile swim in Foster Joseph Sayers Lake at Bald Eagle State Park. The single loop, clockwise swim features a beach start and finish with just two right turns.

BIKE

The second leg is a 56-mile bike ride traveling through Centre and Clinton counties. It will go northeast through Mill Hall before turning south, making its way over Hubler Ridge and Pleasant Gap, descending to Centre Hall, then heading toward the State College area and making a final turn north to the Penn State campus.

This 13.1-mile, two-loop run course takes competitors through Penn State’s University Park campus, ultimately concluding at the 50-yard line of Beaver Stadium.

PENN STATE CAMPUS PARKING CLOSURES

A section of Stadium West near Gate B at Beaver Stadium and the north section of Jordan East are currently closed and will remain closed through July 4.

The following lots will be closed on Sunday with no access in or out:
