The 2024 State College Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Saturday exceeded its $67,000 goal, raising more than $111,000 to support the Alzheimer’s Association’s mission of care, support and research.
About 400 people participated in the event at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.
“The Alzheimer’s Association Greater Pennsylvania Chapter sincerely thanks the many dedicated Walk participants, volunteers and sponsors who made the 2024 Walk to End Alzheimer’s a tremendous success,” Dan Kolbe, development manager, said in a statement. “The funds raised will help fuel disease research while also providing critical care and support to individuals and families affected by Alzheimer’s and other dementia.”
The Marcon Family was the top fundraising team at this year’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s, raising over $40,300, surpassing its total fundraising goal of $40,000. Pamela Marcon and her family participate in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s to honor her husband and father-in-law.
Nearly 7 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease – a leading cause of death in the United States. Additionally, more than 11 million family members and friends provide care to people living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias. In Pennsylvania, there are more than 282,000 people living with the disease and 465,000 caregivers.
Fundraising for the 2024 State College Walk to End Alzheimer’s continues through Dec. 31.
