Tussey Mountain hosted its pond skimming competition to close out the skiing season on Saturday. Skiers and snowboarders wear silly costumes and race down the mountain during the annual event, attempting to skim over a frigid pond formed at the bottom of the mountain as the snow at the top melts with the warm weather.
Some gracefully make it to the other side, but others fall in with a splash. The goal is to successfully make it across the pond without getting wet. Tussey put its own spin on pond skimming by adding a rail section and a jump section.
Music played and riders shared plenty of laughter while watching others fail on Saturday. Friends continued to gather by the bonfire to keep warm and enjoy hot chocolate.
Many people wore costumes while trying to get across the pond, but these stood out the most.

There were more than a few failures.

One rider even decided to jump over the pond on a scooter.

Many decided to put their own spin on pond skimming by adding some cool tricks to their jumps.

Some courageous kids even attempted to get across, even if they didn’t conquer the pond.

Many of the onlookers enjoyed watching the participants either make it across or not.

Whether there were successes or failures, there was still fun all around.
