Centre County Adds 89 COVID-19 Cases; Pennsylvania Reports 4,667

Centre County reported 89 new COVID-19 on Wednesday to bring its total to 14,064, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

Pennsylvania added 4,667 positives — its highest single-day increase since Feb. 5 — for a statewide total of 999,617.

The county also had 173 additional negative test results, increasing its total to 64,141. Across Pennsylvania, there were 10,530 new negatives for a total of 4,076,349.

Centre County’s total number of deaths attributed to COVID-19 remained unchanged at 213 for the 18th consecutive day.

With 48 new COVID-19 deaths reported statewide, Pennsylvania’s total is 24,876.

Mount Nittany Medical Center is treating 21 COVID-19 inpatients as of Wednesday morning, one more than on Tuesday. The patients range in age from 18 to 90, according to a hospital spokesperson.

Statewide, 1,652 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, including 351 in intensive care and 184 on ventilators.

Centre County nursing and personal care homes added one COVID-19 case among residents. A total of 18 long-term care facilities in the county have had a combined 724 resident cases, 152 employee cases and 163 resident deaths.

An estimated 92% of COVID-19 patients in the state have recovered, per a health department calculation.

A total of 38,822 people in Centre County are at least partially covered by the COVID-19 vaccine. The total includes 24,905 who are fully covered, either through the one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine or both required doses of the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines, according to health department data.

Among Pennsylvania’s cases, 850,258 are confirmed and 146,359 are probable. In Centre County, 12,845 are confirmed and 1,219 are probable.
