State College Area High School recently received national recognition for efforts to create a positive school climate and culture.

The school is one of 59 in North America to receive a 2024 Jostens Renaissance School of Distinction Platinum certification and one of just 84 to earn the designation at any level (silver, gold or platinum).

Schools receiving the Jostens Renaissance designation “execute best practices, drive measurable results through recognition and rewards, and cultivate a collaborative supportive community,” according to a news release.

“We are incredibly honored to receive this platinum certification from Jostens Renaissance,” State High Principal Laura Tobias said. “It’s a testament to the hard work and unwavering dedication of our students, faculty, and staff, who truly believe in the power of fostering a supportive, nurturing school community.”

Among recent State High initiatives aimed at promoting school pride, mental health and well-being and an inclusive environment are the new tradition of seniors painting their parking spaces, a Mental Health Summit, Senior Parades at their former elementary schools, a fall festival and an All-In Assembly.

“While we take immense pride in this achievement, our work is far from over,” Tobias said. “We remain committed to finding new approaches that ensure every student feels a deep sense of belonging and school pride.”
