2023 Election Results: Centre County School Boards

Democratic candidates swept the five State College Area School Board seats up for election on Tuesday.

“Slate for State” candidates Amy Bader (incumbent), Gretchen Brandt (incumbent), Anne Demo, Dan Kolbe and Aaron Miller won four-year terms on the the nine-member board. With all precincts countywide at least partially reported as of 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday, they held sizable margins over United for SCASD PAC’s Republican candidates Nathan Bish, Barry Fenchak, John Krajcovic and Michelle Young and Republican Megan Layng.

Ten candidates also vied for five Bellefonte Area School Board seats. The four Win 4 Bellefonte candidates and Republican nominees Jennifer Barnhart, Patrick Vincent Buck, Tim Kessling and Kimberly Weaver (incumbent) held the top four vote totals, while Democratic incumbent Donna Smith had a slim lead for the fifth seat over Republican Darrell Sharp.

In Penns Valley, four at-large school board seats were up for election in a tight race among eight candidates. Democratic incumbents Domer Smeltzer and Scott Butler and “The Valleys’ Voice” Republican candidates Dan Hall and Kim Kellerman-Domin held the top four spots in the race. Butler led Valleys’ Voice Republican candidate Molly Miller by just two votes for fourth place.

Daniel Pick (D/R) was the only candidate on the ballot for the Penns Valley School Board Region 1 seat.

In Bald Eagle Area School District, elections for one Region 1 seat, two Region 2 seats and two Region 3 seats were uncontested.

For Philipsburg-Osceola Area School District, only the District 2 position was contested in Centre County, with Republican Alexander Boumerhi garnering 380 votes to Democrat Tiffany Crain Warlow’s 167.

Results are unofficial until certified, outcomes in closely contested races may ultimately differ from the unofficial results.
