Benner Pike Store Closes for Relocation

Local shoppers will have to find another place to get their party supplies for a few months as a Benner Pike business is temporarily closed.

Party City, which was located at 303 Benner Pike across from Barnes and Noble and next to the Penn State Medical Group, recently closed — but it won’t be gone for long and won’t be going far.

The store is relocating to the Benner Pike Shops plaza anchored by Bed Bath & Beyond and Ross, according to signs posted in the windows of the former location. It is expected to open in the new spot this summer.

A Party City spokesperson has not returned a request for comment. Work is ongoing in the vacant spaces adjacent to Bed Bath & Beyond, but a crew member could not say what business would be moving in.

The relocation marks the latest movement in recent months for the plaza and nearby commercial spaces on Benner Pike.

Dickey’s Barbecue at 333 Benner Pike closed in the fall of 2017, though may reopen at some point under new ownership. Much of the furniture and fixtures appear to remain in the storefront.

Women’s clothing retailer Cato Fashions, 321A Benner Pike, closed on Christmas Eve.

A new business will be opening in the next month in the plaza. Taste Buds Kitchen — which will offer a variety of cooking classes, camps and events providing culinary entertainment for people of all ages — will open on Feb. 23 at 331 Benner Pike.

In a separate plaza to the northeast, land development plans have been submitted to College Township for the construction of a Taco Bell at 387 Benner Pike, on the lot in front of the building that formerly housed Office Depot, which closed in 2016.
