Boil Water Notice Issued for Parts of Boalsburg

Geoff Rushton

Portions of Boalsburg are under a boil water notice following a water main break, according to the State College Borough Water Authority.

The break occurred Tuesday night on South Church Street.

The affected locations are:

• South Church Street
• Chambers Alley (west of Church Street)
• Hazel Street
• Woodmont Street
• East and West Crestview avenues
• Miller Lane

Customers in the affected area should bring all water to a rolling boil, let it boil for one minute and cool before using — or use bottled water — for drinking, making ice, washing dishes, brushing teeth and food preparation.

Inadequately treated water may contain disease-causing organisms, including bacteria, viruses and parasites, that can cause symptoms such as nausea, cramps and diarrhea.

Residents will be notified when the advisory is lifted.

“There is no exact timeline for how long a boil water notice will be in effect,” the authority wrote in a notice to affected customers. “SCBWA will not lift the boil water notice until the water sample is approved and permission is given by the PA Dept. of Environmental Protection.”
