A new restaurant is almost ready to open in the former Citizens Bank building at 122 W. College Ave.
Pittsburgh area-based BRGR, which specializes in gourmet burgers and handmade shakes, will open on Sept. 9, the company said in a news release on Monday. The restaurant, which will have seating for 120, also will have a bar.
Original elements from the century-old bank building, such as the vault and safety deposit boxes, are being incorporated into the restaurant’s Americana theme, ‘complementing the bar meets gastropub vibe of the restaurant.’
The State College restaurant will be BRGR’s fourth and first outside of the Pittsburgh area.
BRGR offers a wide variety of burgers and a build-your-own option, with several kinds beef, as well as turkey, salmon, tuna, bison and falafel and a various cheeses and toppings. It also has about 10 different kinds of classic shakes as well as spiked shakes and floats, and standard fare such as appetizers, salads, side dishes and kids meals.
“Our chef-driven burger offerings are well thought out,” said Rick Stern, partner at BRGR owner S&P Restaurant Group. “We only use the highest quality ingredients in everything we make.”
BRGR announced in June 2018 plans to open in the location, about two years after the building’s last occupant, Citizens Bank, closed its branch there. It will be next door to another new restaurant — Eat’n Park-affiliated Hello Bistro, will open in the former Diner location at 126 W. College Ave. Renovations for Hello Bistro are ongoing and an opening date has not yet been announced.
BRGR is currently hiring and interested applicants can stop into the building between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday through Friday.
