Mark Dambly was elected to a second year as chair of the Penn State Board of Trustees during the board’s meeting on Friday at Penn State Berks.
Alumni-elected trustee Ted Brown also was nominated for chair. Dambly received 26 votes to Brown’s 10.
Matthew Schuyler, an at-large trustee since 2015, was elected to a second year as vice chair. He was unopposed.
President of Philadelphia-based real estate group Pennrose Properties, Dambly was first appointed to the board by former Gov. Ed Rendell in 2010. He was approved for a new term in May 2017 as a business and industry trustee after recommendation by a selection committee. Dambly was vice-chair of the board in 2016-17.
In nominating Dambly for a second term as chair, trustee David Kleppinger credited Dambly’s focus on and work with students, faculty, administrative leadership, university fundraising and board operations.
‘Chair Dambly has created a positive momentum for us and for the university and I am happy to endorse his candidacy and make this nomination to help make Penn State even greater,’ Kleppinger said.
Trustee Elliott Weinstein nominated Brown, who was first elected to the board in 2013, and said that while both candidates were competent and capable of leading the board, they presented differing leadership styles.
‘I advocate that Ted’s style coupled with his skills and great competency for risk management, government relations, Greek life, his military veteran and capital campaign experience will lead our PSU charge for access and affordability critical to our land grant mission,’ Weinstein said.
