Ferguson Township is taking the next step toward the creation of its Economic Development, Growth and Innovation Strategic Master Plan.
The township has issued a request for proposals seeking qualified firms or individuals to lead the development of “a forward-thinking plan that will guide its efforts to foster sustainable economic growth, promote innovation and enhance the quality of life for its residents,” according to a news release on Monday.
The Appalachian Regional Commission awarded the township a $75,000 grant earlier this year to support development of the plan.
Among the aims of the Economic Development, Growth and Innovation Strategic Master Plan are to:
- Define a vision and strategy for the township’s economic future that align with community values and goals;
- Identify opportunities for growth in key industries that support long-term sustainability;
- Foster innovation through an ecosystem supporting entrepreneurship and emerging technologies;
- Enhance livability through planning and investment in infrastructure, housing and community amenities; and
- Promote inclusivity and equity to ensure economic benefits are accessible to all residents.
“Economic development means different things to different people, especially in a diverse community like Ferguson Township,” Township Manager Centrice Martin said in a statement. “The goal of the Economic Development, Growth and Innovation Strategic Master Plan is to engage the entire community across all three wards in creating a plan with actionable steps and measurable outcomes. This plan will align with regional strategies while being specifically tailored to the unique needs and character of Ferguson Township.”
The township is seeking proposals from experienced professionals with expertise in strategic planning, economic analysis stakeholder engagement and rural development. The selected consultant will work with township officials, residents and community stakeholder on a plan that “reflects diverse perspectives and aspirations,” according to the release.
The proposal submission deadline is March 10, and the township expects to award the bid on March 28. Submission guidelines and the full RFP document are available on the Ferguson Township website.
