A new retail store is slated to open Friday morning in State College.
Five Below will open its doors at 10 a.m. along Colonnade Boulevard near Wegmans and Target.
The chain sells a variety of products with each item priced at $5 or less. Five Below has roughly 315 stores and its corporate headquarters is based in Philadelphia.
Company spokesperson Elizabeth Romaine says the company has been interested in the State College area for some time due to its family-oriented community with value-minded shoppers. College students also frequently shop at the retail chain, she says.
“It’s a market that we’ve been looking to open a store in for quite some time we were just waiting for the right opportunity to come along,” she says. “Our brand aligns quite nicely with communities that are really family-oriented.”
A grand opening event will be held all weekend with prizes, give-aways, and discounts.
The first 100 customers on Friday will receive a scratch off coupon with a discount on purchases ranging from $1 to $100.
Also on Friday and Saturday afternoons, there will be 5-cent hotdog cart along with games and music.
The first 300 customers on Friday, Saturday and Sunday will receive a free T-shirt.
