Highway Resurfacing Set to Begin in Centre County

Geoff Rushton

A resurfacing project for several roads in Centre County is scheduled to get started this week, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.

Beginning Thursday, April 11, traffic lanes will be reduced on Route 45/Shingletown Road between Route 26 and South Atherton Street for crews to complete milling and paving operations. Flaggers will provide traffic control.

“Drivers should anticipate short travel delays during daylight hours while work takes place,” according to PennDOT.

Other Centre County roads slated to see improvements as part of the project this construction season include:

  • Route 144/Snow Shoe Mountain Road in Snow Shoe Township.
  • Route 445/Pike Road in Walker Township
  • Route 9109 (approaching South Atherton Street from Shingletown Road)

Route 477/Long Run Road in Lamar Township is also included in the project.

PennDOT plans to issue an update before work begins on each road.

Overall work will include highway resurfacing, drainage improvements, guide rail replacement and pavement marking.

Glenn O. Hawbaker Inc. is the contractor on the $5 million job, which PennDOT expects will be completed in November.
