Construction will soon begin on a new Holiday Inn in College Township.
The hotel will be located at 1414 Dreibelbis Street, on the currently empty parcel between Sam’s Club and the Stocker auto dealerships.
Holiday Inn University Park will be a 63,000-square-foot, four-story hotel with 101 guest rooms, a fitness center, indoor swimming pool, a bar and lounge area, a restaurant, banquet and meeting spaces. Rooms will have ultra-HD televisions and high-speed internet, among other amenities.
The hotel, which will have 30 part-time and 10 full-time employees, is owned and operated by StarGrande LLC, a subsidiary of Star Group.
‘State College was chosen as the site for StarGrande’s newest hotel due to its proximity to Penn State and because of the vitality of the whole Centre Region,’ the company said in a news release.
A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for June 12 with owners, members of the construction team and local officials.
The hotel is expected to open in the summer or fall of 2020. Kinsley Construction of York is the general contractor on the project.
Plans for a hotel on the site were initially approved by College Township in 2017, but new plans were submitted and approved in 2018. As part of the plans, the developer will contribute $13,952 for a future traffic signal at the intersection of Shiloh Road and Trout Road.
StarGrande LLC purchased the parcel in 2017 for $800,000.
It’s not the first time a hotel has been proposed for the site. In 2012, College Township Council approved plans for a 109-room Homewood Suites. The plan expired and the hotel was never developed.
