The Ray Gricar mystery takes another startling turn with a newspaper reporting the former Centre County District Attorney was murdered by a former Hells Angel.
The Altoona Mirror says investigators, including the FBI, are looking into that claim.
The newsaper says the man who made that claim to investigators earlier this year contacted the Altoona Mirror in May and said he has been a person of interest in the case because he was a top officer in the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club.
The man reportedly told the Mirror that the former Hells Angel who allegedly ordered Gricar’s killing was an FBI informant who appeared in Centre County Court in the late 1990s.
The killing was supposedly payback for a harsh prison sentence given out after a conviction for aggravated assault.
The source asked the Mirror not to reveal his identity because of concerns for his safety.
According to the Mirror, a check of Centre County Court records confirms the Hells Angel named by the source was convicted of aggravated assault. That man had been sentenced to a multi-year prison sentence and once worked as an FBI informant.
The Mirrow quotes Bellefonte police Detective Matthew Rickard as saying “It’s ongoing,” referring to the investigation.
Rickard reportedly says there are more interviews to do and that the FBI hasn’t updated him on the status of its investigation.
A number of law enforcement agencies have been involved in the investigation since Gricar disappeared April 15, 2005. They include the FBI and Pennsylvania State Police.
It’s been eight years since Gricar vanished. His car was found parked outside a Lewisberg antiques mall a day later.
The newspaper says the source led the FBI to a property somewhere in Pennsylvania where he said Gricar’s body was dumped in a shaft after his “knee caps were spun” and his throat slit. The source reportedly decided not to reveal the exact location because he wants immunity from prosecution.
The Mirror says the source originally decided to reveal the location of Gricar’s body because he thought the former Hells Angel who ordered the killing was dead. He has since learned the man is still alive.
The Mirror report says multiple independent sources confirm that the FBI has questioned the source and did take him to the site where Gricar’s body was supposedly left- said to be in a shaft that was covered by several feet of dirt.
