One Dead, One Injured After Single-Vehicle Crash in State College

One person died and another was seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash Sunday in State College, according to borough police.

The crash happened as an 83-year-old State College resident was driving a Hyundai Elantra at about 1 p.m. through the parking lot of Schlow Centre Region Library, 211 S. Allen St., police wrote in a news release on Monday. The driver accelerated through the parking lot and into A Alley, then struck a concrete wall bordering the apartment building construction site at the former Days Inn property.

The driver, whose name was not released, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Centre County Coroner’s Office. A 78-year-old female passenger sustained “severe” injuries and was flown to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, where she is listed in stable condition.

An investigation is ongoing. Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be factors in the crash, according to police.

State College police, the Centre County Accident Reconstruction Team, Centre Lifelink EMS, Alpha Fire Company,and the Centre County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene.
