“Steeped in tradition,” Penn State’s Berkey Creamery is has gotten a packaging makeover, two years after it unveiled a renovated space on campus. The Creamery also will now sell ice cream pints online, starting with vanilla bean and the Creamery’s newest flavorTHON Gold Ribbon Ripple.

“We have had the same product packaging design for decades,” Creamery Assistant Manager Jim Brown said in a release. “As we forge ahead with new promotions and products, we felt it was time to refresh our look to reflect the future, all with the customer experience in mind.”

The new product packaging started with Gold Ribbon Ripple and will be rolled out in phases with other pints and ice cream flavors. Other Creamery products like milk, yogurt, and cheese will follow suit throughout the year.

The new look — which includes photos of the ice cream inside, a new Creamery brand seal easy-to-read nutrition and ingredient information — was a collaboration between the Creamery, the College of Agricultural Sciences’ creative services department, and HZDG, an agency founded by Penn State graphic design alumna Karen Zuckerman.

“It’s tradition with a twist,” Creamery Manager Tom Davis said. “We’ve created something new, but with a respectful nod to the past of the Creamery and Penn State. The new look is distinctive and allows immediate recognition of our Creamery brand. We also are adding a little bit of fun with catchphrases on our more popular ice cream flavors.”
