Four Nittany Lions will be departing the Penn State football program the university confirmed to StateCollege.com on Friday afternoon.
Receiver Richy Anderson and walk-on quarterback Austin Whipple plan on transferring while receiver Jonathan Warner and offensive lineman Anthony Alosi will no longer be on team but will remain at Penn State.
Alosi is schedule to graduate this August.
“We thank them for their contributions to the program and wish them well in their future academic and athletic endeavors,” head coach James Franklin said in a statement.
Facing scholarship reductions and sanctions in the coming years, all four players would have likely seen limited action in their immediate futures.
Anderson saw time occasionally last season but made a limited impact during his time on the field with 13 catches for 111 yards. Similarly, Warner –Son of Penn State alum and two time All-American Curt Warner– appears to be buried deep on the receiver depth chart while Whipple would likely never see the field unless both quarterbacks Christian Hackenberg and Michael O’Connor had been injured.
Lastly, Alosi was not considered by many to be in contention for a position on the two-deep roster along the offensive front although the Nittany Lions are considerably thin at that position.
