If you were hoping to buy Homecoming tickets to see Penn State take on Michigan you can purchase tickets through the university — with a twist — you have to buy a ticket to the Eastern Michigan game as well.

The Penn State Athletic Department announced single game ticket sale details late Tuesday that features mandatory ticket packages aimed at getting Nittany Lion fans in the seats for more than just the big games.

In another pairing, fans who purchase tickets to see Penn State take on Nebraska will also be required to purchase the same amount of tickets to the Kent State meeting.

Public single game tickets for the upcoming football season go on sale on Tuesday, July 30 at 10:00 a.m. with tickets available at www.GoPSUsports.com/tickets. Fans can also purchase single game tickets by calling 1-800-NITTANY. All tickets will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis.

Advance parking for each game can be purchased as part of the July 30 ticket sale as well. General parking purchased in advance is $10, while paying to park on game day when arriving to the general lots will cost $40. Fans are encouraged to purchase parking passes in advance to save money and to speed up the parking process as well. Fans can purchase up to three advance single game parking passes per account.

For Penn State, the 2012 season marked the most notable decline in attendance since Beaver Stadium expanded in 2001. However, even with the decrease in attendance, an average of 96,730 per game Nittany Lion fans still showed up for each game.

That mark ranked Penn State No. 5 for the 2012 national season attendance average behind Michigan, Ohio State, Alabama and Texas.

Now for fans, the question will remain if a trip to Happy Valley for one of the two marquee home games is worth the price of extra tickets to out of conference games as well. Penn State isn’t the first athletic program to bundle tickets together, but the move marks a noticeable change for a football program more than capable of filling one of the largest stadiums in the nation on any given weekend.

“I am coming all the way from California for the Michigan game,” Penn State alum Dana McCarren said. “I would rather pay more for that ticket than buy another ticket where I will leave an empty seat.”

In the end, Penn State’s own ticketing service won’t be the only way to buy a ticket this season. The secondary market on websites like StubHub has always been strong enough to satisfy any fan just looking to get inside Beaver Stadium.

However for those fans looking to bring the family to the biggest games of the season,, they will have to spend a little extra and make it to two home games if they’re looking to buy tickets from Penn State.
