James Franklin starts spring practice with the Nittany Lions Monday afternoon but he hasn’t backed off from his recruiting blitz.
Franklin and his staff made yet another investment in the future Sunday, adding yet another highly-regarded recruit.
The latest future Nittany Lion, comes in the form Juwan Johnson, a four-star receiver out of Glassboro, New Jersey. Listed at 6-foot-4 and 190 pounds, Johnson had offers from over a dozen schools including Alabama, Temple, Ohio State, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, and Georgia Tech.
Johnson gives Penn State its eighth verbal commitment for the 2015 recruiting class and the fourth verbal commitment rated at the four-star level.
As a result Penn State’s current recruiting class ranks as one of the best in the nation — the fourth best in the land according to Scout.com. According to the ranking, Franklin and his staff were bested by only Texas A&M, Alabama, and LSU. Seven of the current commits to the 2015 class come from New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

With National Signing Day almost a year away, plenty will change on the national recruiting stage as well as Penn State’s own recruiting class. We’ll have to wait awhile to see if Penn State finishes with a Top 5 recruiting class nationally. But there is little doubt that Franklin and his staff are off to a strong start with their first recruiting class in Happy Valley.
