Student tickets to see Penn State men’s hockey sold out in less than 90 minutes according to the program, a bounce back after a sluggish -but eventually sold out- sale in 2018.
The Nittany Lions open the season Oct. 11 against Sacred Heart in a two-game series. Pegula Ice Arena will host a weekend series against Alaska Fairbanks and a single game against Robert Morris before opening Big Ten play against the Wisconsin Badgers. The Big Ten conference has yet to released its preseason poll, but both the Nittany Lions and Badgers ought to be among the favorites in a packed league to win the regular season title.
Penn State finished fourth in the seven-team league last year, second and fourth place separated by just two points. The Nittany Lions would eventually make the Big Ten Tournament title game for the second time, but fall to Notre Dame on the road. Penn State has finished four in the Big Ten every year since the 2015-16 season when the Nittany Lions ended the year in third in a then six-team league.
The opening USCHO has yet to be released but traditionally comes near the end of September. Penn State is likely on track to open the year within the Top 10 if not Top 5.
