Rapid Recap: Penn State 33, Nebraska 9
How it Happened: Top-ranked Penn State defeated Nebraska in wrestling in Rec Hall, 33-9 on Sunday afternoon. The match started off with a forfeit from Nebraska against Nico Megaludis at 125. David Taylor had the only win by forfeit, with a 16-1 technical fall over Tyler Koehn. The Alton brothers had their first matches of 2013, returning after missing a month because of a violation of team rules. No. 3 Andrew Alton was pinned by No. 12 Jake Sueflohn, while No. 6 Dylan Alton had a late takedown to win, 3-1. No. 1 Ed Ruth had a 14-3 major decision over No. 8 John Ihnen. Unranked Bryan Pearsall defeated No. 19 Ridge Kiley off an escape and a riding time point in the third period to win, 2-0.
Bout of the Match: In his first bout back in 2013, No. 6 Dylan Alton was against No. 4 James Green. Alton attempted a takedown on Green early on in the first round, but the referees did not call it. Coach Cael Sanderson challenged the call, but it was not overturned. At the end of the first, the bout was scoreless. Alton started down in the second and escaped to lead, 1-0 going into the third. Green started down in the third to tie the bout at 1-1, but with 15 seconds left in the bout, Alton took down Green to win, 3-1.
Stat of the Match: Andrew Alton lost his first bout of the season to fall to 17-1, while Quentin Wright (18-0) and Ed Ruth (19-0) became the only remaining undefeated wrestlers for Penn State.
What it Means: Penn State remains undefeated with an 8-0 record in the dual season and 5-0 record in the Big Ten heading into its toughest weekend of the dual season.
On Deck: Penn State will head to Iowa to face the No. 4 Hawkeyes on Friday night in its most difficult dual of the season. The game will be aired on the Big Ten Network. Sunday, Penn State will face No. 6 Illinois.
