An intracounty Mountain League football matchup scheduled for Friday night has been canceled after one team’s players were advised to quarantine.
Penns Valley was slated to visit Philipsburg-Osceola at 7 p.m. But on Friday afternoon, Penns Valley was contacted by the Pennsylvania Department of Health and informed that a player from the Rams’ opponent last week, Clearfield, has tested positive for COVID-19, according to Superintendent Brian Griffith.
All Penns Valley players who participated in the Sept. 11 opener were told to quarantine, meaning the Rams would not have enough athletes to field a team Friday night at P-O.
‘The PA DOH is still researching the details of this matter and will be contacting our own Penns Valley players who were in close contact with said COVID-19 positive player,’ Griffith wrote.
‘We are all so sorry to hear and have to share this last-minute news.’
Clearfield’s home game against Tyrone scheduled for Friday also was canceled.
Next Friday, Penns Valley is scheduled to host Bald Eagle Area; P-O is scheduled to host Central; and Clearfield is scheduled to visit Bellefonte.
