A bomb threat called in to Bellefonte Elementary School on Friday afternoon was deemed to be “not credible” after an investigation, the school district wrote in an email to families.

The “nonspecific” bomb threat was made in a voicemail on the school’s attendance line shortly before dismissal, Superintendent Roy Rakszawski wrote. Students were dismissed and staff were released as a precaution.

“Since then, our director of security, in consultation with local police, has determined that the threat is not credible and is similar to a trend of similar threats that have been made in neighboring school districts recently,” Rakszawski said.

School districts throughout Blair County received threats via email on Wednesday, and a state police spokesperson said those are “believed to be similar to ‘swatting calls’ where there is no legitimate threat to any students or faculty.”

Threats have also been made since the start of the academic year at school districts throughout Pennsylvania, including in Bedford, Cambria and Lehigh.

In Bellefonte, Rakszawski said after-school and evening events will continue as planned with an increased police presence.
