Alcohol played a role in a three-vehicle crash that occurred Sunday on Interstate 99 in Centre County, according to state police at Rockview.
A 47-year-old Allentown man driving a 2015 Mercedes-Benz GLK 350 “at a high rate of speed” lost control of the car at about 6:10 p.m. near mile 67 northbound in Patton Township, according to a crash report released Wednesday. The Mercedes rolled over, crossed the grass median and struck the guardrail along the left southbound lane.
The impact disconnected a wheel, which then struck a camper driven by a 49-year-old York woman, police wrote. Debris from the Mercedes’ impact with the guardrail also struck a Ford Edge driven by a 50-year-old Philipsburg woman.
Neither of the women were injured.
The driver of the Mercedes was taken to Mount Nittany Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries. Police suspected he was under the influence of alcohol, but say he refused a blood draw at the hospital.
Troopers obtained a warrant for his medical blood test results, which showed he was above the legal blood alcohol concentration at the time of the crash, according to the crash report.
DUI and summary violation charges are pending, police wrote. He is not being named here because he has not yet been charged with a crime.
State police were assisted at the scene of the crash by Alpha Fire Company, Centre LifeLink EMS and Halfmoon Valley Towing.
