Penns Valley Area School District officials say the student responsible for two bomb threats this week has been identified.
State police “took the student from the building today and there are no plans for the student to return,” Superintendent Brian Griffith wrote in a message to the Penns Valley community Thursday on Facebook.
The threats, which the district has described as “general” and “non-specific,” were written on a restroom wall at the high school in Spring Mills.
The first was discovered on Tuesday morning and resulted in the cancelation of classes for the day at all district schools. The second was found late in the day on Wednesday, and though classes were not canceled, increased monitoring and “temporary restrictions on student movement,” were implemented on Thursday, Griffith wrote in a message to families. Those additional measures will be removed effective Friday.
Identification of the alleged perpetrator came “after dedicated efforts from our school district administrative team,” Griffith wrote. All evidence has been turned over to state police, which will work with the Centre County District Attorney’s Office “to determine the next steps forward.”
“We deeply appreciate your continued patience and support during this challenging time,” Griffith wrote.
