It’s time to break out the jack-o-lanterns and stock up on candy.

Halloween is fast approaching and a lot of procrastinators out there still need to pick out their costumes.

Fortunately, there is still time and plenty of options available.

As usual, characters from recent hit movies are among the most sought after get ups.

According to Gary Filkins, the manager of the popular Halloween store Gift Adventures, 137 E. Beaver Ave, the popular pick among kids this year is either Queen Elsa or the snowman Olaf from the 2013 Disney hit movie “Frozen.”

“I’m not exactly sure how you pull off being a goofy snowman,” Filkins says. “Obviously that’s the most popular movie with the characters.”

Gift Adventures is not the only store being flooded with costume requests from “Frozen.” Target has seen its share of kids who want to dress up like the stars of the animated fantasy tale.

“The only one thing that really stands out is ‘Frozen’ with the kids,” State College Target manger Amber Slike says. “Really all the characters are popular too.”

For adults, one of the most popular movie character may be somewhat surprising. It’s the mask worn by the title character of the 2006 thriller film “V for Vendetta.”

The most popular female movie costume is also somewhat of a blast from the past, as last year’s remake of “The Great Gatsby has brought back the flapper outfit.

Filkins adds that the demand for movie costumes has changed the past couple of years, with many people now opting for lesser-known characters instead of the traditional leading roles.

“There’s so many obscure comic book characters,” Filkins says. “People want to be this one person from a movie that’s only on screen for 30 seconds.”

So far this year, the biggest seller at Gift Adventures has actually been one of its newest items — women’s military apparel.

Though he’s never stocked those before, Filkins says the store has already had to order more female clothing in camouflage design.

“I’m getting some more in but we actually already sold out of three of our women’s military costumes,” Filkins says. “I’ve got another order coming in because I’m already running out of the V-necks and the shorts.”

At the same time, classic outfits like zombies, angels, police and superheroes are still going strong.

“A lot of people are just doing traditional stuff,” Filkins says. “I can’t tell you how many angel wings I’ve sold. Anything to do with S.W.A.T. and Navy SEALs is really big too.”

“Pretty much anything and everything,” Slike says. “The sky’s the limit.”
