Travel Delays Expected During Road Work on I-99 in Centre County

Drivers traveling on a section of Interstate 99 in Centre County should be prepared for travel delays over the next two months, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.

Road work scheduled to begin Monday is expected to impact traffic from mile markers 63 and 67 eastbound and westbound, between the Port Matilda and Grays Woods exits. The $969,000 project will clean and reseal joints to extend the life of the roadway on I-99 in Huston and Worth townships, PennDOT wrote in a news release.

Long-term single-lane closures will be in place for traffic control, and drivers should “anticipate delays during peak traffic,” according to PennDOT.

The project is expected to continue through late November. All lanes will reopen at the close of business on Thursdays before home Penn State football weekends — Oct. 12, Oct. 26, Nov. 9 and Nov. 16 — to avoid impacting the influx of traffic headed to the State College area and Beaver Stadium.

All work is weather dependent. Swank Construction Company of New Kensington is the contractor on the job.
