Two people were injured and taken to a hospital in critical condition after a vehicle crash that shut down a Spring Township road on Friday afternoon, according to township police.

Emergency responders were dispatched at about noon to the 1000 block of Blanchard Street, near the intersection with Meredith Lane, for a reported crash with injuries. Spring Township police “rendered care and began an investigation” upon arrival, according to a post on the department’s Facebook page.

A 76-year-old man and and a 31-year-old woman, both Bellefonte residents, were taken to UPMC Altoona in critical condition, police wrote.

Police did not describe the vehicles involved and declined further comment, citing an ongoing investigation

Spring Township police, the Centre County crash reconstruction team, Bellefonte and Pleasant Gap EMS, Mount Nittany Medical Center Ambulance, Logan and Undine fire companies and Pleasant Gap Fire Police responded to the scene.

The road was closed for about three hours. Local residents were able access their homes from the Bellefonte side of Blanchard Street during the closure
