The Alzheimer’s Association will host a “Walk to End Alzheimer’s” this weekend at Penn State to help raise awareness and financial support for the disease and those affected by it.
The Walk to End Alzheimer’s is a national event and the largest of which to raise money and recognition for the Alzheimer’s Association. The walk will be held at Medlar FieldSaturday and will include participants from the Penn State and State College communities. Last year’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s raised more than $80,000 in State College alone and $77 million across the country.
The walk will kick off with an opening ceremony at 10 a.m., with the walk itself getting started at 10:30. According to the event’s website, the walk is a two-mile loop. Though it’s too late to register online or start a team, anyone interested in walking can come by Medlar Field at 9 a.m. to sign up.
Not only will those walking know that they’re efforts are going to a good cause, but they also will have the opportunity to learn about the disease itself, support services for those battling Alzheimer’s, and what they can do to advocate for the association as well as those affected.
According to the event page, the State College community has already raised $82,421.82 of the $100,000 goal. With 656 participants already slated to attend, that number is sure to grow.
