Dutch Wonderland, a place that claims to be a “kingdom for kids”, is much more than your average amusement park.

This 48-acre theme park is located just east of Lancaster and about a two hour drive southwest from State College, so it’s easy to reach if you’re looking for a quick getaway.

Since opening in 1963, Dutch Wonderland has become one of the biggest attractions in Pennsylvania and was voted one of the Top 5 Best Kid’s Park in the World by Amusement Today magazine.

“Since I’ve been here, we’ve introduced a host of family rides,” says Ashlee Hurley, director of marketing at Dutch Wonderland. “We like to keep up with the trend and one of the ways we do that is we keep our shows current with pop culture.”

Dutch Wonderland has made several changes to its grounds but none bigger than adding Exploration Island. The island has over 20 mechanical dinosaurs that come to life as you walk around.

“The appeal of the moving, lifelike dinosaurs is pretty universal among our guests,” says Hurley. “Young guests are curious and become captivated by the appearance of the dinosaurs and our adult guests enjoy the atmosphere and presentation of the dinosaurs.”

Since it’s summertime, Dutch Wonderland’s water attraction, Duke’s Lagoon, is now open.

According to Hurley, the lagoon has a multi-level platform, kid-sized slides, a variety of spray nozzles, jets, tipping cones, and a large tipping bucket.

With plenty of rides, fun attractions and live shows, Dutch Wonderland says it offers a unique experience to its visitors.

“It is definitely in the top five places to visit when you come to Lancaster County,” says Sarah Long, director of marketing at Discover Lancaster. “We’ve got something for everyone to enjoy.”

Dutch Wonderland has a number food options to choose from. You can have a sit down meal with the whole family at Merlin’s Restaurant or the Mill Stream Eatery. If you don’t like to wait you can grab a quick bite at Uncle Andy’s or the Funnel Cake Factory.

“If you’re visiting Lancaster you should check out Dutch Wonderland,” says Hurley. “We have something for everyone to enjoy.”
