Penn State football’s 2023 recruiting class landed its second commitment in as many days with a defensive lineman pledging to the Nittany Lions on Tuesday.

Mason Robinson, a three-star prospect out out of the McDonogh School in Owings Mills, Maryland, announced his verbal commitment to Penn State on Twitter. Robinson decommitted from Northwestern Monday.

“I am thankful for all the love from Coach Fitzgerald and Northwestern University, but I am officially decommitting from Northwestern University,” Robinson wrote. “I will be going back to where it all started, with Coach Franklin and the Nittany Lions.”

Robinson’s commitment comes a day after three-star defensive lineman Joseph Mupoyi committed to Penn State.

The 6-foot-4, 230-pound Robinson announced his decommitment from Northwestern shortly after a Dec. 9 official visit to Happy Valley. During his announcement, Robinson donned a Penn State wristband.

Robinson selected Penn State over Notre Dame and Tennessee, among others.

Penn State has now landed 21 commitments through this recruiting cycle, including four defensive linemen. Robinson joins four-star Jameial Lyons, three-star Tyriq Blanding, and Mupoyi.

For the McDonogh School, Robinson recorded 83 tackles and nine sacks through nine games this season.

The Nittany Lions are establishing something of a recruiting pipeline from McDonogh, with Robinson serving as the most recent example. Four former McDonogh players are currently on the Penn State roster: true freshman defensive lineman Dani Dennis-Sutton, sophomore linebacker Curtis Jacobs, redshirt junior defensive lineman Dvon Ellies and sixth-year senior PJ Mustipher.

Robinson is ranked as the No. 10 overall prospect in Maryland and the No. 65 defensive lineman nationally, according to 247Sports.

With Robinson’s decision, Penn State remains at No. 13 in 247Sports’ national rankings, but has closed the gap with No. 12 Oregon. The Nittany Lions still trail Big Ten rival and sixth-ranked overall Ohio State among conference programs.
