Game day at Beaver Stadium is set for a shakeup, as longtime public address announcer Dean DeVore is no longer with Penn State Athletics. The news was confirmed Tuesday afternoon by Athletics spokesperson Kris Petersen.
“Dean DeVore is no longer with Penn State Athletics,” Petersen said. “We do not have further comment, as this is a personnel matter.”
Though there is no official word about the nature of DeVore’s exit, DK Pittsburgh Sports’ Cory Giger reported that a source indicated that university administration “wanted to make a change.” Giger added that, according to the source, a “recent ‘incident’ at a university sporting event may have jeopardized him being able to continue with roles in other university-related events.”
DeVore most famously served as the voice Penn State football but also announced for Penn State’s Blue Band and other various sporting events. His first public address job at Penn State was for men’s lacrosse in 1989.
DeVore began serving as the Nittany Lions’ football PA announcer in 2000 and most recently fulfilled his duties during the 2023 Blue-White Game — less than two weeks prior to his departure. Outside of his Penn State responsibilities, DeVore works as a meteorologist for AccuWeather in State College.
Penn State Athletics’ timeline to name a replacement has not yet been publicly announced.
