Penn State will be without a veteran defensive lineman for the remainder of the year.
Hakeem Beamon, a sixth-year defensive tackle, is no longer with the program, a team spokesperson confirmed on Friday. Beamon appeared in all eight games this season, tallying three tackles.
Beamon played seven snaps in the Nittany Lions’ 20-13 loss to Ohio State last Saturday. He was not present for a practice period open to reporters on Wednesday.
The spokesperson did not provide a reason for Beamon’s departure, when exactly he separated from the team or whether he is still enrolled with the university. He was listed in the university’s directory as of Friday night.
Beamon joined the team as a four-star recruit in 2019, playing in three games as a true freshman. His playing time increased the following year, when he appeared in eight games as a redshirt freshman.
With the opportunity to again increase his involvement and start as a third-year player, Beamon was ruled “unavailable” by James Franklin for the 2021 season.
Beamon became a full-time starter as a redshirt junior in 2022, notching a career-high 16 tackles, six tackles for loss and four pass deflections. He started in six of 13 game appearances in 2023, but dropped out of the starting lineup completely this season.
This was Beamon’s final season of collegiate eligibility.
