Junior Penn State defensive end Chop Robinson will opt out of the Nittany Lions’ upcoming appearance in the Peach Bowl and declare for the 2024 NFL Draft he announced on Tuesday.
“To the Penn State fans, Thank you from the bottom of my heart for accepting me with open arms and making these past two years the best years of my life,” Robinson said in his statement. “I will always cherish our time together and your unwavering support through the many ups and downs is something I will be eternally grateful for.”
Robinson originally began his collegiate career at Maryland before transferring to Penn State following his freshman season. Last season Robinson appeared in all 12 games while racking up 10 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, three quarterback hurries, a fumble recovery, and a forced fumble. In 2023, Robinson managed 12 solo tackles and four sacks as well as two forced fumbles. He did this in spite of missing two games with an injury suffered against Ohio State at the midway point of the year.
Robinson is the first of Penn State’s upperclassmen to declare for this year’s NFL draft and maybe the least surprising as a frequently projected first round selection.
