Penn State football’s newest top-ranked running back received a major honor on Thursday when he was named the 2021 Maxwell Football Club Offensive National High School Player of the Year.
“I am pleased all the hard work I put in is paying off,” Singleton wrote in a statement. “This would not be possible without the support of my family, coaches, and teammates.”
Singleton is the first Nittany Lion to receive the Maxwell High School Player of the Year award in its 15-year history. Prior recipients include stars like Trevor Lawrence, Bryce Young and Derrick Henry.
The honor is just the latest for Singleton, who already collected the Gatorade Player of the Year honor for Pennsylvania, and, later, the Gatorade National Player of the Year award, as well as the All-American Bowl Offensive Player of the Year.
An early enrollee at Penn State this spring, Singleton is coming off of an electric high school career. He capped off his time at Governor Mifflin High School near Reading with a senior year that included 2,043 rushing yards, 41 touchdowns and a state title.
A handful of other prospects have enrolled at Penn State this semester and officially joined the Nittany Lions. Fans might get a chance to the team’s newest recruits in action during the April 23 Blue-White game, or in 226 when Penn State kicks off the 2022 season against Purdue on Sept 3.
