A familiar name will be joining the Penn State men’s hockey program.

Mac Gadowsky, son of Nittany Lions head coach Guy Gadowsky, has transferred to Penn State from Army, the team announced on Wednesday. A finalist for the Hobey Baker Award, Gadowsky was one of the nation’s top defensemen this past season.

Regardless of his ties to the Nittany Lions, Gadowsky is a significant addition to a team set to carry national championship aspirations into next season. Gadwosky should help bolster the defense of a Penn State team that is fresh off its first Frozen Four appearance in program history.

Gadowsky finished the regular season leading all defensemen nationally with 42 points and 16 goals. He was also the only player in the country with at least 40 points and blocked shots this past season.

Gadowsky, who has two seasons of eligibility remaining, will join a program expected to return key starters such as Big Ten leading scorer Aiden Fink, Charlie Cerrato, JJ Wiebusch, Matt DiMarsico, Reese Laubach and more.
