Penn State continues to make progress on a $12.8 million renovation project to the Penn State Field Hockey Complex which includes upgrades and improvements to the home and visiting team dressing areas, a locker room space of officials, ticket office, public restrooms and concession areas.
Press and media boxes and a television broadcast booth will be added to the venue as will a multi-purpose hospitality room and an area for field storage. The stadium and press levels will include 1,200 bench seats.
The project is expected to be completed by the spring of 2024.
“We are looking forward to having a first-class facility that will benefit student-athletes, fans, family and friends,” said now former Penn State field hockey head coach Char Morett-Curtiss last year prior to her retirement. “It is a facility that will showcase high level hockey and give us the opportunity to offer a premium experience to everyone when we host postseason events, both Big Ten and NCAA. These improvements and additions will also turn the Penn State Field Hockey Complex into a venue that will allow us to host alumni events and other functions all year long.”
Following the retirement of Morett-Curtiss In February, Penn State hired longtime associate head coach Lisa Bervinchak Love to take over the role following the conclusion of Morett-Curtiss’ historic tenure at Penn State.
“I am truly blessed and honored to be the next head coach for Penn State Field Hockey,” said Bervinchak Love at the time. “I want to thank Pat Kraft for giving me this opportunity and Char for all her support, mentoring and the friendship she has given me over the years. Char has been the heart and soul of this program for a long time, and I am truly grateful to have been by her side for 29 of those years. I will do my best to honor Char’s legacy and the traditions of Penn State Field Hockey. We will continue to play with heart and strive to be the best both on and off the field. We Are!”
Penn State opens its 2023 season on Aug. 25 against the University of Virginia in the first of four games on the road before opening at home against Kent State on Sept. 8.
