Penn State wrestling landed a big-time commitment Thursday night when Braeden Davis announced his intent to become a Nittany Lion.
Davis, ranked by FloWrestling as the No. 36 overall recruit in the Class of 2023, surprisingly chose Penn State when he committed. The Dundee, Michigan product was previously linked to Michigan, Michigan State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and Minnesota when he released the list of his top-five destinations back in October.
Davis is expected to wrestle at 125 or 133 pounds, which is good news for Penn State. The Nittany Lions have struggled to produce consistently at 125 in recent years, and 133-pound star Roman Bravo-Young is expected to leave the program following one last ride this year.
“He’s a gritty wrestler whose unwillingness to concede positions makes him an exciting college prospect,” FloWrestling’s David Bray wrote.
Davis will need to wait quite a while before he can join Cael Sanderson’s program on the mat at Rec Hall. For now, he can take pride in watching No. 2 Penn State continue its undefeated season, especially following a 29-10 rout over No. 3 Arizona State.
