A familiar face is returning to College Township Council.
The council voted 4-0 on Thursday to appoint former member Anthony Fragola to fill the vacancy created by Carla Stilson’s upcoming departure. After 10 years on council, Stilson submitted her resignation, effective July 1, at the end of May, citing personal reasons.
Fragola will serve the remaining six months of Stilson’s unexpired term ending Jan. 2, 2024.
He previously spent six years on council. After being appointed for an interim term from 2016 to 2017, Fragola served an elected term from 2018 to 2021. He was council chair in 2020.
Fragola was selected from among six candidates, each of whom also applied in December when Susan Trainor was ultimately appointed to fill the vacancy created after council member Paul Takac was elected state representative. At council’s direction, staff reached out to them to solicit their interest in the latest vacancy.
Council member Richard Francke said that Stilson leaves “a pretty big shadow,” and while he believed each of the candidates would have done well, Fragola’s recent experience will be helpful.
“I’m very pleased that we’ve gone this direction.” Francke said. “I think Mr. Fragola, having just recently come off of council, gives us the most opportunity to keep the ball moving. If you haven’t noticed, we have a lot of stuff going on. I’m excited to work with a reformatted council.”
