U.S. Rep. Glenn “GT” Thompson, R-Howard Township, is running for a ninth term in Congress.
“If there was any question, today I am announcing my campaign to seek re-election to Congress,” Thompson said in a statement on Tuesday. “I am grateful to the countless supporters and volunteers for our campaign. It is together that we have produced real results and I am looking forward to building upon these successes and towards many more victories ahead.”
A lifelong Centre County resident who first won election to the House in 2008, Thompson represents the geographically largest congressional district in Pennsylvania. The sprawling 15th district includes the north-central counties of Centre, Armstrong, Cameron, Clarion, Clearfield, Clinton, Elk, Forest, Jefferson, McKean, Potter, Snyder, Tioga, Union and Warren and parts of Indiana, Lycoming and Venango.
He last won reelection in 2022 by a margin of 70% to 30% against Democratic challenger Mike Molesevich of Union County.
Thompson is currently chair of the House Agricultural Committee, the first Pennsylvanian to hold the position in more than 170 years, and is leading work on a new five-year farm bill, a package of legislation that governs agriculture and food programs.
The 64-year-old was diagnosed with prostate cancer in December, but said at the time that he felt well and has continued working.
Prior to running for Congress, Thompson spent 28 years as a therapist, rehabilitation services manager and a licensed nursing home administrator, and he served on the Bald Eagle Area School Board. He has a bachelor’s degree from Penn State and a master’s degree from Temple.
